Bow Mariner

Bow Mariner 1m resolution multibeam.

The Bow Mariner was a 570 ft Singapore flagged tanker enroute from New York to Houston, TX. The tanker was southbound off the coast of Virginia when it caught fire, exploded and sank. She was carrying 3.5 million gallons of ethanol, 48,000 gallons of stored diesel fuel and 193,000 gallons of fuel oil. The Bow Mariner sank in 235 ft of water 50 miles east of Assateague, VA.

The Bow Mariner and surrounding seafloor were surveyed with multibeam sonar by NOAA Ship Thomas Jefferson in 2009. NOAA multibeam survey F00585 is available from the National Geophysical Data Center.
